Our first half day Suture Masterclass for Pain Specialists took place in the Anaesthetics Department at St Thomas' Hospital on 14 May 2009. The event was organised by Senior Pain Theatres Nurse, Steph Harris, with support from Ethicon. Watch this space for future masterclasses!

23 Jan 2009 - London Pain Forum at The Ritz

The inaugral meeting of the London Pain Forum at The Ritz Hotel, Piccadilly on 23 January 2009 was a phenomenal success. Leading figures in pain medicine from London and across the UK gathered together to lay the foundations of a new organisation committed to multi-centre research, overseas training and above all alleviating human suffering.

Highlights of the evening included a talk from orthopaedic surgeon Mr Peter Earnshaw who discussed the 700 year history of the Barbers & Surgeons Guild upon which our new Forum is being modelled.

This was followed by a guest of honour lecture from the highly regarded father of radiofrequency Professor Menno Sluijter from Switzerland.

Drinks receptions in the Ritz's Marie Antoinette Suite were followed by lectures, presentations and a banquet in the elegant 18th century surroundings of The Music Room, located in the William Kent House wing of the historic hotel.

Frederic Chopin Airport is located 10km (6 miles) southwest of Warsaw.

Bus stops are located immediately in front of the Arrivals hall. MZA City Buses (tel: 9484; website: www.ztm.waw.pl) 175 and 188 serve Warsaw, including the train station (30 minutes journey) during the day, while night bus N32 provides a link to the central railway station overnight. Standard ticket costs approximately 2.4 Zloty.

The taxi stand is located in front of the Arrivals hall. Cost of a taxi ride to Warsaw Central Railway Station is approximately 50 Zloty.

Money and communications: There is a bank in the Terminal 1 Departures hall, and bureaux de change and ATMs in Arrivals and Departures. There is also a post office in the Departures hall. Wireless Internet access is available in the main terminals.

11-13 May 07 - Destination Bruges!!!

Our annual travelling symposium was once again a great success thanks to the hardwork of Dr Teo Goroszeniuk, Mr Ciaran Wazir and Dr Joseph Azzopardi.

We booked a whole carriage on Eurostar for the trip to Bruges on 11-13 May 2007 and were joined by delegates from as far afield as Melbourne, Australia.

1998 - Formation of The Pain Management Centre, Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital

The Pain Management Centre at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital was formed in 1998 when the interventionalists at Guy's Hospital got together with the pain team based at St Thomas' to become one all encompassing pain unit.

The new order in those days was led by Dr John Wedley, a pain consultant originally from Guy's Hospital. Dr Wedley and our team mapped out an ambitious course for the department placing it at the forefront of chronic pain management in the UK. Today our institution is held in high regard around the world for the multi-disciplinary nature of our pain service and the innovative techniques employed by our clinicians.
